Despite a relatively quiet and warm day today, big changes are on the way as we head into the weekend.
High temperatures will climb into the middle 80s this afternoon under predominantly sunny skies.
A cold front approaches the area by Saturday afternoon, triggering showers and thunderstorms as it moves through. We may start the day with some fog and drizzle, with temperatures in the middle to upper 60s early, then briefly rising into the lower 70s before the front arrives.
A line of heavier rain and thunderstorms is expected to move through around midday, followed by additional rounds of showers through the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will steadily fall throughout the day behind the front.
The good news: the severe weather threat remains low locally. While a few storms could produce gusty winds and brief downpours, potentially limiting some of the airshow, the greater risk for severe weather stays well to our east.
By the time fireworks begin after 9 PM, temperatures will have dropped into the 40s and 50s. If you’re heading out, plan for a much cooler, damp feel—jackets and rain gear will be a must.
Showers may linger into the overnight hours, but coverage and intensity will gradually decrease.
Looking ahead, noticeably cooler air settles in behind the front. Highs on Sunday will only reach the lower 60s, followed by middle 60s on Monday. A warming trend returns by the middle of next week, with temperatures climbing back into the middle to upper 70s.
