If you need a little help getting into that spring state of mind, I have hand-picked a few of my top fashion trends for the new season. From fringe to exposed shoulders, and a flirty update to the little black dress, these spring staples are easy to incorporate into your current wardrobe, and will get you excited about shedding those winter layers.
Fringe Frenzy
For an easy update to some of your favorite pieces from last season, add a little fringe. After being applied to everything- jewelry, jackets, skirts, handbags and footwear-fringe is back, and in a big way. Dress up a casual tee with a pair of fringe earrings, or style your favorite denim with a pair of heels that are embellished with the shredded textile. You can also add a touch of playfulness to a basic button-down blouse by donning it with a fringe skirt. Just be sure to pair your fringe with feminine styling, so that your look reads more chic than rodeo cowboy.

Shoulder Play
Instead of bare midriffs and mini skirts, exposed shoulders are how designers brought subtle sex appeal back this spring. For example, off-the-shoulder frocks in billowy silhouettes replaced the structured midi dresses of last season. However, the halter blouse with strategically-placed cut outs in the shoulder area is my favorite take on the trend for spring, because it is versatile and will pair beautifully with trousers, denim or even a pencil skirt.

Statement Earrings
When it comes to this season’s earrings, bigger is better. Oscar de la Renta paired his spring looks with shoulder-grazing, tassel options, while Gucci went ultra glam and created extremely ornate sets. However, statement earrings can be found in all shapes, colors, sizes and price ranges, and are such an effective and easy way to update your favorite top from last season.

Super Stripes
Stripes really never go out of style. Just like a classic pair of pumps, you can never have too many pieces that boast this geometric pattern. However, this spring it is all about embracing graphic stripes in bright and bold colors. Don a striped blouse in a highly-saturated hue with a pair of culottes, or simply update one of your favorite looks with a silk scarf in a striped pattern. Just remember: whether you are wearing the pattern from head to toe, or only want to accent an outfit, something as simple as a well-placed stripe is sure to make a huge impact.

Pretty in Pleats
Forget the little black dress, and opt for a perfectly-pleated option this season. Pleats always find a way back into our closets, but this spring think chiffon micro pleats in bright colors instead of the heavier versions that are often reserved for school uniforms. Once you see all the movement this textile has to offer, you will begin to wonder why you ever wore a basic black dress in the first place.
