A cold front will bring a line of strong to severe storms overnight, around 1 AM to 3 AM for Southern Indiana, and a little later for Kentucky. The storms are expected to weaken as they move south into our area, but still could pack a punch with damaging wind gusts as the main threat.
The Storm Prediction Center has our area under level 1 and 2 of the 5 severe weather risk categories. The highest risk for tornadoes and an outbreak of severe weather remains in the Moderate Risk northwest of Indianapolis.
Much of the rain will move south over Kentucky for much of our Thursday, but spotty showers will likely return for Southern Indiana by late afternoon and evening as the front stalls out over the region.
The front will move farther south early Friday morning taking all the rain with it. So, nice and dry for Friday and Saturday.
Unfortunately, it looks like the next system will bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms for Father’s Day Sunday. Then, mainly dry again early next week.
As for today, it will be partly sunny, warm, and dry with highs in the mid-upper 80s. Getting breezier through the afternoon and evening with south winds at 10-20 mph. Higher gusts tonight.
