The main issue to watch out for today is flash flooding. Areas along and north of I-64 are under a Flood Watch until 8 AM Saturday. 1-3″ rainfall totals are likely with locally higher amounts possible. Rounds of showers and storms will be riding along a stationary front parked over the region through tonight.
Along with the flood threat, we’ll need to keep an eye out for a few strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has our area under a level 2 (Slight Risk) out of 5 severe risk. Isolated damaging winds are the main threat, but can’t completely rule out an isolated spin-up tornado.
Rain showers will linger Saturday morning, but it’s not looking as wet tomorrow, with heavier rain setting up mainly south of Louisville much of the day.
A shower or storm possible early Sunday, then the heat wave begins to kick in with highs near 90° and the heat index near 100°. The heat wave builds and hangs around all next week with triple digit heat index values.
