We get to enjoy more warm temperatures and mostly dry conditions today, but be extra weather aware Wednesday with rounds of strong to severe storms possible.
The Storm Prediction Center has our region under Level 2 of the 5 severe risk categories (Slight Risk). Morning and afternoon rounds of severe storms are possible with all hazards on the table. While isolated damaging straight-line winds are the main threat, spin-up tornadoes can happen. Below is the latest break-down from our local National Weather Service.
The maps below show the HRRR weather model output for Wednesday morning and afternoon. 1-2″ rainfall totals are likely, so we’ll also need to keep an eye out for localized flooding.
As for today, enjoy the near record high temperatures in the mid-upper 70s. The record high is 78°, set in 2009. While an isolated shower is possible today, most areas will stay dry. South winds at 10-20 mph. Showers/storms will develop overnight with warm temperatures.
We’ll be drying out with cooler conditions Thursday. In fact, wind chills could dip to the 20s Thursday morning. We rebound nicely with 60s Saturday, then low 70s Sunday. Great weather for the St. Patrick’s Parade in Louisville Saturday at 3 PM. Another rain chance returns late Sunday, with a transition to light snow showers possible Monday. A cold start next week! March weather madness!
