Inner Spring Yoga’s brand-new studio is located at 137 E. Market St. in downtown New Albany.
Rob Klaus’s tale of why he initially tried yoga isn’t particularly unusual. The business owner hoped to increase his ability to relax. After taking classes for the past eight months, yoga has “helped out a lot with my flexibility,” he said, “and it helps me to remain calm in a stressful situation.”
Practicing yoga also has given Rob a new appreciation for his instructor and wife Carrie Klaus. The couple own Inner Spring Yoga, which recently expanded from Jeffersonville to downtown New Albany with a new location. “Community is a big part of (Inner Spring Yoga), and Carrie has fostered that,” he said.
Rob and Carrie opened their Jeffersonville studio in 2013 – and the second New Albany location in July – as a way to “bring together a peace-centered community that was focused on being of service – using your yoga practice … as a way to better yourself so you can go out and better the lives of other people,” Carrie explained. “We want to bring peace and really open people up to an experience that most here in Southern Indiana haven’t had.”
Ali Guess is one of Inner Spring Yoga’s newest members. She spotted a sign for the New Albany location while walking her dog and purchased a 30-day membership for $30, an offer extended to all newcomers. “I love it. I’m like addicted to it,” Guess laughed. “I’ve attended every day but two since buying the pass. … I have anxiety, so it’s really nice for that.”
Last October, Ty Burnett went to Bali and fell in love with yoga. He moved to Southern Indiana earlier this year and wanted to find a studio. “People told me (Inner Spring Yoga) was a very special place,” said Burnett. “I got it right on the first try,” he said.
