CHARLESTOWN, Ind. – The City of Charlestown is elated to announce it was awarded just over one million dollars in Community Crossing Matching Grant funds during the spring of 2025 for road and infrastructure projects.
Charlestown’s ask from the CCMG program was $1,057,163.25, with the entire amount awarded. The total cost of projects will be $1,409,511. For communities under 10,000 residents, the required local match is 25 percent.
“This is outstanding news for our city as we continue to strengthen our infrastructure,” said Mayor Treva Hodges. “Our growing city will benefit from these critical infrastructure improvements to our streets, sidewalks, and stormwater. Community Crossings provide a great opportunity to rebuild and improve for residents and promote business growth.”
CCMG launched in 2016, and the amount awarded to Charlestown is the most ever.
The project locations include Green Alley, Harrison Street, Madison Street, High Street, and High Jackson Street.
High through High Jackson Streets will see roads paved and sidewalks addressed.
As the Forest Edge Apartments are on pace to open for rent in the fall of 2025, the city will address sidewalks and road improvements on Green Alley, Madison, and Harrison Streets. This combines with recent sidewalk improvements to High, Main, and Water Streets in recent years to improve walkability to local businesses and parks.
Curbs, storm drains, and street gutters will be part of the stormwater improvements within the project locations.
The CCMG projects will take place in 2025.
Across the state, just over $200 million was awarded to cities, towns, and counties.
Community Crossings is a partnership between INDOT and Hoosier communities, both urban and rural, to invest in infrastructure projects that catalyze economic development, create jobs, and strengthen local transportation networks.
Cities and towns with a population of fewer than 10,000 will receive funds using a 75/25 match while larger communities provide a 50/50 match.
