I love the Kentucky Derby so much that I got married that weekend and coordinated tickets for all 75 of our guest to go to Derby! Derby is so Southern charm meets magical. It’s my favorite time of the year.

I grew up right here in New Albany, where my parents, Mike and Felecia Koerber, founded their business, Koerber’s Fine Jewelry. I currently run the family business as the chief financial officer, but I always take time off at Derbytime. There is a reason why they say that Derby is “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” There is so much preparation and celebration leading up to those two minutes. Our entire community comes together and celebrations tradition and heritage and then we get to celebrate it with the world within those two minutes. I ‘Do Derby’ by getting all dressed up with my closest friends and family, and head to the track for the (Kentucky) Oaks race. I love going to the Oaks because more locals attend, so you are guaranteed to run into old friends. Before working for Koerber’s, I worked in the fashion industry in New York City, so I also love seeing all the beautiful dresses and hats. With everything that goes on in this world, it’s nice to have a guaranteed fun weekend planned every year where you can just let loose and celebrate Derby.

The Derby festival brings so much energy to the area: parties, fundraisers, traditions. I love being a part of it all. At Orange Clover, we cater a large amount of events during Derby week and participate in the Dare to Care Taste of Derby, but I always make sure to allow time for my own Derby traditions with my family.
