Central Christian Church’s Community Cupboard is blessing people who give and receive
One day while perusing Facebook, Pam Snow saw a post about a “community cupboard,” a wood structure similar to the Little Free Libraries that have popped up around the community. Except, the cupboards contained non-perishables and toiletries.
A member of Central Christian Church in New Albany, Snow thought, “This just looked like a great fit for us. … We have a lot of folks in our area that either do without or utilize a lot of service around the community. We wanted to support that even if it’s in a small way. … We wanted to have an opportunity to be more involved in our immediate surroundings.”
Recently, Snow said, a neighbor in need took a bottle of shampoo but left boxes of macaroni and cheese. “It’s heartwarming someone in that situation is also trying to be a part of the bigger community,” she said.
Now, Central Christian Church is on a mission to help spread awareness of the cupboard to those who could benefit as well as those willing to help keep the cupboard stocked. Snow said the congregation also would be thrilled to see fellow churches and businesses put up their own community cupboards.
