When KIM MURPHY JOHNSON and LAURA APPLEGATE decided to open OH BABY! CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE in New Albany’s flourishing downtown area last year, the duo envisioned a store that would bring a unique shopping experience for children’s clothing and accessories to Indiana. With popular items from brands such as SoYoung and handmade pieces from homegrown artists – like April Singer – the boutique has managed to keep their store local while still providing trendy items from around the globe.
“We want people to come to our boutique and find things that they just won’t see anywhere else,” Murphy Johnson.
In addition to the global brands and handmade items that Oh Baby! currently carries, the boutique also boasts an impressive selection of upscale resale pieces from designers such as Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack and Matilda Jane. This idea of mixing old and new gives shoppers the ability to purchase consigned designer pieces at as much as fifty percent off the original retail price.
Additionally, Oh Baby! carries trendy diaper bags, backpacks, handmade quilts, interesting décor items and other accessories that are extremely hard to find anywhere else locally. “Kim’s background in the arts has helped us get a wonderful representation from regional artists who provide one-of-a-kind artwork for children’s rooms, and even wearable art for kids,” Appleagte said.
Johnson and Applegate also have a baby registry at the boutique that allows shoppers to personalize items and even create unique gift baskets for special occasions.
