The jet stream has taken a dive over the Ohio Valley, opening the door to a much cooler pattern for the rest of August. Temperatures will be running about 10° or more below normal with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

Overnight low temperatures will be near record lows, especially for areas outside the city. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few cool spots touch the upper 40s. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday record lows are 51° for Louisville.

So, we’re talking maybe a light morning jacket, and then enjoying perfect afternoon with low humidity. Our weather pattern will also stay mainly dry through the long-range outlook.
There are more signs that fall is right around the corner, as our countdown to the new season continues.

Temperatures should warm a bit through our Labor Day Weekend, but the lake and pool water will be cooler for sure.

Enjoy this long spell of cooler and more comfortable air. I’m sure summer will eventually kick back in at some point in September. Have a great week! -Meteorologist Ben Peine
