For much of my adult life, I’ve made resolutions for the New Year. Then, weeks — sometimes months — later, I’d quietly acknowledge I’d (usually) failed yet again. I have no idea why I’ve persisted knowing what the outcome would be, but I did. Until 2019.
Just before there were exactly 90 days left until Jan. 1, 2020, I sat down and wrote a list of things I wanted to accomplish and enlisted the help of life coach Laura Wagner (Laura-Wagner.com) and sought accountability from some of my WHAS11 colleagues (I host “Great Day Live,” a weekday morning show that airs 10-11 a.m. on the ABC affiliate). Instead of waiting for a “clean slate Monday” or a “fresh start first day of the new year,” on Thursday, Oct. 3, I began tackling a list of “to-do for me” items one at a time.
While I’ll refrain from sharing the list here — but will share in our next issue — I’m happy to report I’ve been successful. That’s because I keep one of Laura’s mantras always in mind: “It’s about progress not perfection.” It’s also about acknowledging the blessings in my life more than I do my failures.
This final issue of the year contains a multitude of blessings, both given and received, and I hope you’ll find inspiration and hope in these pages — because who couldn’t use more of both.
As Extol heads into the fifth year of publication, my team and I are incredibly grateful to you for the continued support as we strive to extol what makes Southern Indiana a community like no other.
Truly,
