THE PARK HAS THREE POOLS: an activity pool, a wading pool and a lazy river. The activity pool has a steamboat spray feature in it, and the wading pool is perfect for small children. There are four slides, including three tube slides and one bowl slide, which is “like you’re getting flushed down a toilet,” joked Kayla Tatgenhorst, events and promotions coordinator.

The park also offers swim lessons for ages 4 to 14. Though the target group for the classes are kids, adults are welcome to join if they want to learn,Tatgenhorst said. Cost is $30 for a two-week session of daily American Red Cross lessons.

While the kids learn to swim, adults can swim laps or walk against the current in the Lazy River. There are no water fitness classes this year, but for $3 per visit, you can still get a workout in the mornings.

This year, there will be several fun activities to keep families busy, Tatgenhorst said. This includes water volleyball twice a month in the activity pool and Deck Art days on Tuesdays. On Deck Art day, kids can bring their own chalk and draw all over the concrete. If they don’t have any chalk, there will be some available. On July 25, kids can Be a Lifeguard for a Day. They’ll get the chance to hang out with a lifeguard for an hour at a time and learn what it’s like to be responsible for the safety of swimmers. On June 27 and July 18, there will be Yard Games, including cornhole, Jenga and other fun backyard games.

At 5 p.m. Thursdays, there is a Big Splash contest, and 5 p.m. Fridays there are Duck Drop Races. Participants can buy a plastic duck for $1, and the owner of the duck that “wins the race” to the steps gets a concessions basket or voucher. There are about 100 ducks, and they nearly sell out every week, Tatgenhorst said. The money raised will be donated to a charity at the end of the season.

Adults can get in on the fun, too. At 5 p.m. Aug. 17 is Adult Swim Night. There will be beer and wine, along with other food provided. Participants must be 21 to attend.

Tatgenhorst said the waterpark is fun for all ages. “Come have a splashtastic day at River Run Water Park with your friends and family.”
